Case Summary:
The City of Newton, MA, faced a challenge with its 130-year-old water distribution system, which serves approximately 90,000 residents. The system required extensive rehabilitation, and Mass Tank was tasked with repairing and recoating the standpipe and tank.
The standpipe exhibited significant signs of deterioration. Mass Tank’s specialized team implemented a repair strategy to extend its lifespan. This involved installing steel plates at the joints, sandblasting the interior and exterior surfaces, and applying a durable epoxy coating. The interior received a 200-mil coating, while the exterior was treated with a 10-mil layer.
Mass Tank is proud to have contributed to the successful rehabilitation of this critical infrastructure. The project was completed in February 2024 with minimal disruption to water service, demonstrating Mass Tank’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient solutions for municipal water systems.
